Guidelines for Naming Audiobook Chapters

Guidelines for Naming Audiobook Chapters

Purpose

This document outlines the best practices and mandatory requirements for naming and structuring audiobook files submitted to Bokbasen. Proper formatting ensures accurate processing, chapter division, and metadata generation for distribution to streaming platforms and sales.

Naming Audio Files

Correct naming of audio files is essential for automated chapter extraction and metadata generation in Bokbasen Meta. The file name should reflect the content of the audio. Bokbasen therefor recommends to use the title of the chapter as the filename. If a segment or chapter of the audiobook is longer than 120 minutes, the segment/chapter will havet to be split up. This means that you could end up having 2 files with the same name. Bokbasen would recommend trying to keep the

File numbering

  • Each file name must begin with a three-digit track number (e.g., 001, 002, 003).

  • The intro file must always be 001.

  • The outro file must be the last in sequence.
Example: For an audiobook with an intro, 8 chapters, and an outro, the outro should be 010.

  • Avoid spaces in the numbering.
    Invalid examples: 00 1, 0 01, 0 0 1

Examples of accepted file names:

  • 001-Intro_og_kolofon

  • 002-Reisen begynner

  • 003-Når reisen er over

  • 004-Kapittel 4; Ærlig løve i tåken

  • 005-Det finnes en - slutt

  • 006-Notre Dame De Déliverance

  • 010-Outro

If the audiobook does not contain chapters, use “Del *” (Part *) as the naming convention:

Examples:

  • 001-Intro

  • 002-Del 1

  • 003-Del 2

  • 004-Del 3

File nameing rules

File names may include:

  • Spaces

  • Special characters (e.g., æ, ø, å)

  • Accented letters (e.g., è, é, ü, ê)

  • Hyphens or underscores (underscores will be replaced with a Space)

  • Semicolon (;)

  • Pluss (+)

  • Square brackets ([ ])

File names may not include:

  • Apostrophe (')

  • Backtick (`)

  • Acute accent (´)

  • Questionmark (?)

  • Colon (:)

  • Quotation mark/Double quote (“)

Automatic Chapter Extraction in Bokbasen Meta

In Bokbasen Meta you can automatically extract chapters and generate Chapter Level Metadata (CLM) based on the submitted audio files and filenames.

  • Each audio file is registered as a separate chapter.

  • The chapter name is derived from the file name.

  • Prefixes such as 001- are removed for readability.

  • Underscores (_) are replaced with spaces.

Examples:

  • 001-starten_på_slutten → Starten på slutten

  • 002 – Bokenstittel → Bokenstittel
